The Five Days of Hajj, Day by Day: What Happens and What Your Package Provides

By Farazm Travel · Updated 19 August 2026 · 3 min read

Months of planning come down to five days. Knowing their shape in advance turns anxiety into presence — so here is the sequence, plainly, with what your package is actually doing for you at each step. As ever: the schools differ on some details, and your Mutawwif travels with the group for exactly those moments — follow your guide and your scholar where details vary.

8th Zil Hajj — Yawm at-Tarwiyah: to Mina

Pilgrims enter Ihram for Hajj (those on Tamattu‘ re-enter it in Makkah) and move to Mina, spending the day and night in the tent city in prayer and preparation. Your package here: your Maktab — the tent, beds, meals and drinks whose category you chose — and seat-by-seat Mashaer transport.

9th Zil Hajj — Arafah: the day that IS Hajj

After Fajr, the movement to the plain of Arafat for the wuquf — the standing — from midday to sunset: the single indispensable pillar of Hajj. Du‘a, repentance, the Talbiyah; the most important hours of the journey. After sunset, the night move to Muzdalifah: Maghrib and Isha combined, pebbles gathered, a night under the open sky. Your package: the Arafat tent with meals and cooling, then the Muzdalifah essentials — in our programmes, floor mat or sleeping bag and a snack box.

10th Zil Hajj — Eid: the day of four rites

The fullest day: (1) stone the large pillar — Jamarat al-Aqaba — seven pebbles; (2) the sacrifice (is yours included?); (3) halq or taqsir — men shave or trim, women trim a fingertip’s length — releasing most Ihram restrictions; (4) Tawaf al-Ifadah and the Hajj Sa‘i in Makkah, per your form of Hajj. Order flexibility exists between these — a guide question, and the reason you have one. Your package: Jamarat guidance and timing (this is where a near-Jamarat Maktab or a held hotel room earns its price), sacrifice arrangements where included, and Tawaf facilitation.

11th–12th (or 13th) Zil Hajj — the days of Tashreeq

Back in Mina: each afternoon, all three pillars are stoned in order, seven pebbles each. Departing on the 12th before sunset is permitted; staying to the 13th adds a day of the same. Your package: the Maktab remains home; meals continue; the group moves to the Jamarat together at guided times — timing strategy is half the comfort.

The farewell

Before leaving Makkah: Tawaf al-Wida, the farewell circling — facilitated by the group before the Madinah leg or the journey home.

Frequently asked questions

What is physically hardest?
Cumulative walking — above all the Jamarat rounds from far camps. It is why Maktab location dominates package pricing, and why the elderly-parents planning matters so much.

Can rites be delegated?
Stoning may be delegated for those genuinely unable — conditions apply; your guide handles the practice, your scholar the ruling.

What if I miss a timing?
Fiqh provides remedies for most contingencies — another reason the guide is beside you. Don’t carry a mistake in silence; ask immediately.
