The Complete Umrah Packing Checklist (Print It, Tick It, Forward It)

By Farazm Travel · Updated 12 August 2026 · 4 min read

Pack for Umrah once, properly, and the journey carries you instead of your luggage. This checklist is built from what our pilgrims actually use — and what they call us about forgetting. Print it, tick it, and forward it to whoever is travelling with you.

Documents (the non-negotiables)

  • Passport — plus two photocopies packed separately and a photo of it on your phone
  • Visa confirmation / Nusuk documentation as issued
  • Flight tickets and hotel confirmations (printed — phones die)
  • Passport photographs (a few spares)
  • CNIC/ID copies · next-of-kin contact details
  • Your operator’s 24/7 WhatsApp number saved and written on paper in your money pouch
  • Any prescriptions, in original packaging, with the doctor’s letter for regular medication

Ihram & clothing

  • Men: two full Ihram sets (one to wear, one spare — you will be glad of it), an unstitched Ihram belt/money pouch, and sandals that leave the ankle bones uncovered
  • Women: loose, modest sets in breathable fabric, a prayer garment, and comfortable covered walking shoes
  • Light footwear for the hotel · a cloth shoe-bag for the Haram (the single most-thanked item on this list)
  • A light shawl or sweater — the Haram’s marble and air-conditioning run cool at night

Health & comfort

  • Unscented toiletries — soap, deodorant, lip balm: the no-perfume rule of Ihram includes what you wash with
  • Anti-chafing balm or petroleum jelly (long walks in Ihram — trust us)
  • Blister plasters · basic painkillers · rehydration salts (ORS)
  • Personal medicines for the full trip plus a few days’ buffer
  • A face mask or two for dense crowds, and hand sanitiser (unscented while in Ihram)
  • Sunglasses and an umbrella — it is shade in Makkah, not rain

Practical kit

  • Universal adapter — Saudi Arabia uses the UK-style three-pin (Type G) socket · power bank for long Haram days
  • Local SIM or eSIM plan (airport kiosks sell both) — data makes lost-family moments short
  • Small spray bottle (Zamzam-cooling on the walk) · ziplock bags · safety pins · a folding laundry bag
  • Pocket prayer mat · tasbih · a small du‘a book or your du‘a app ready offline
  • Nail clippers and small scissors — packed in checked luggage only (needed after Umrah for taqsir, forbidden in cabin bags)

Money

  • Saudi Riyals in cash for daily spending — plus a card as backup (cards are widely accepted, cash still rules small shops)
  • A flat money belt worn under clothing — not a visible waist pouch in dense crowds
  • Our pilgrims typically budget modest daily amounts for food outside the package meals, plus gifts — see the “we recommend” note on your package page

If you travel with elderly parents

  • Arrange wheelchair assistance before travel — airport, Haram upper-level carts for Tawaf and Sa‘i — tell your operator at booking so it is planned, not improvised
  • A laminated card in their pocket: name, hotel, your number, blood group
  • Their medicines split between two bags, never all in one

What NOT to pack

  • Scented products of any kind for the Ihram period
  • Valuables and heavy jewellery — the Haram is for worship, hotels have safes
  • An overstuffed suitcase — leave a third empty; Zamzam and gifts come home with everyone (Zamzam travels in the airport-sealed containers per your airline’s rules — buy it sealed, don’t decant)

Frequently asked questions

How much luggage can I take?
It depends on your airline and ticket class — check your booking; common international allowances run 23–30 kg checked. Pack light going; you will not return light.

Can I buy Ihram in Saudi Arabia?
Easily — shops around both Harams and at airports sell full sets. A spare bought at home is still wise so the Miqat never catches you unprepared (see our step-by-step Umrah guide on when Ihram begins).

Is there a dress code outside Ihram?
Modest dress applies throughout the Kingdom for everyone — loose and breathable is both correct and comfortable in the heat.
