• Makkah ↔ Madinah: commonly around two and a half hours station to station — against roughly double that by road.
• Stations sit outside the central Haram areas in both cities, so allow for the transfer legs at each end; your operator’s transport plan should include them.

Honest operators write the intercity leg the way ours is written: “Madinah–Makkah by Haramain high-speed rail (subject to availability) or chartered luxury bus.” The reason is straightforward: in peak seasons the railway’s capacity is allocated and group blocks aren’t guaranteed months ahead. A brochure that flatly promises the train for Hajj week is promising someone else’s seat allocation. The commitment you should look for is the honest pair: rail when secured, a genuinely comfortable coach when not — ours are late-model, air-conditioned, with onboard bathrooms.

Rail wins on: time, smoothness, comfort for elderly pilgrims. Coach wins on: door-to-door simplicity (no station transfers), group togetherness, luggage handling. Neither is a compromise on the pilgrimage itself — the rites don’t care how you arrived.

Can I book Haramain tickets myself?
Yes — public sales run online and at stations. If you travel on a package, coordinate with your operator first so the group transport plan and your luggage don’t go separate ways.

Does the train run from Jeddah airport?
There is a station serving the airport — useful on arrival days; whether it beats a direct transfer depends on your terminal, timing and luggage. Your operator will route the smarter option.
